I downloaded a ZIP file, now what do I do with it?

You can create a temporary folder, unzip the file into it, run the install program, and then delete the temporary folder. If you don't know what you are doing with all that, download Unzip Wizard or WinZip and let it do it for you.

Download tip!

Create a download folder in your root folder and have your browser save downloaded files to that folder. If you do this, your downloaded files will be easy to find. If you aren't sure what folders (directories) are all about, see Understanding Folders
To create this folder:
  1. Open the Start menu
  2. Click on Programs, or press P
  3. Click on Windows Explorer or press W (If there is more than one item in the Program menu starting with W, arrow key on down to Windows Explorer and press enter)
  4. Select C: (or another drive) in the left pane
  5. Click on File, or press alt-F
  6. Click on New, or press w
  7. Click on Folder or press F. A New Folder icon will appear in the right pane.
  8. Type download
  9. Press the Enter key
