eBay
has a tremendous amount of new and used computer software, hardware, and books for
auction. All items are offered for sale by individual sellers. eBay has a
feedback forum where buyers rate sellers and sellers rate buyers. Before you
bid, you can see what experience other buyers had with that seller. Sellers
with too much negative feedback are kicked off the service by eBay. The
service is free to buyers, and you can browse the listings without registering.
You must register before you can bid or sell. Registration is free. If you
are looking for software, a book, a video card, or a complete system; try
eBay.
Half.com, an eBay sister company, also has a tremendous amount of new and used computer
hardware, software, and books for sale. Like eBay, all items are offered for sale by individual
sellers and Half.com has a system where buyers rate sellers. Unlike eBay, items are
not auctioned, but the seller sets a price. When more than one seller is selling the
same item, the listings for that item are sorted by condition and price. When you buy
an item, Half.com notifies the seller. Sellers have 2 business days to confirm an order.
When the seller confirms the order, you receive an "Order Confirmed" message and Half.com
charges your credit card for the total price. You do not pay the seller directly. Then
the the seller has one business day to ship the item.
Usenet Newsgroups
Usenet newsgroups do not have the seller ratings
that eBay and Half.com have. However, some postings are warnings about unscrupulous sellers.
You must have a newsreader installed for these links to work.
